Project description

A project in Victoria Park, Western Australia, involved the installation of a new railway layby area, including stabilising its embankments, renewing the rail base course, installing drainage and diverting railway tracks, and incorporating a new layby area, all within an existing rail reserve.

Significantly, Monford conducted all the critical works to the rail reserve over four 56-hour shutdowns, working day and night to ensure the works were completed and the rail corridor was cleared in time for the reopening of the railway the following Monday.

Scope of work

  • Install permeation grout into the embankments
  • Excavate the embankments during 56-hour weekend shutdown periods
  • Excavate and install eco-crate drainage
  • Install soil nails to support the pedestrian bridge footings
  • Apply shotcrete to the newly formed embankments to provide a 100-year design life to the permeation grouted embankments
  • Supply and install geoweb, including organic fill, to the remainder of the embankment
  • Form spoon drains
  • Remove rail base build-up and install sub-base
