Scope of Work

The Cunderdin Hybrid Solar + BESS project, located 200 km east of Perth, stands as a significant milestone in renewable energy innovation. Developed for Global Power Generation Australia, this project features a 128 MWp photovoltaic solar system paired with a 55 MW/220 MWh DC-Coupled Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Together, these systems will generate approximately 266 GWh of electricity annually, powering 51,000 homes and offsetting around 140,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.

As the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor, Monford Group played a delivered this project using cutting-edge technology, safely and sustainably for our client. Our team successfully installed over 14,700 piles, 233,632 photovoltaic (PV) modules across 2,160 trackers, and constructed more than 7.5 km of access roads. We also installed over 680 km of cable and built the essential 33/132 kV substation, ensuring seamless integration with the grid. The Cunderdin Hybrid Solar + BESS project generates enough clean energy to power over 51,000 homes each year—offsetting around 140,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.

Community Impact

The Shire of Cunderdin

Since Monford began operations in Cunderdin, they have been open and accessible, allowing for easy communication between The Shire of Cunderdin and the development of the Solar Farm. The Solar Farm has been a welcome addition to the many diverse industries already existing and operating successfully in Cunderdin. Throughout the development of the project, many local businesses benefited from the increased activity, including local accommodation providers and retail traders and suppliers.

Cunderdin Op Shop Donation

As the project neared completion, one of our remaining team members had a thoughtful idea before moving onto his next Monford project. He arranged for the donation of all furniture and white goods from one of our units to the local op shop—supporting the community that had welcomed us throughout the project.

The Op Shop volunteers and the Cunderdin Community thank Monford Group for their generous donation of furniture etc from the accommodation unit in Cunderdin.

Monford Sponsors Kellerberrin’s 26th Golden Grains Carnival

Monford Group was proud to sponsor the 26th Golden Grains Carnival in Kellerberrin on 14th and 15th January 2025, as part of our commitment to supporting the local community around our Cunderdin Hybrid Solar and Battery Project. We extend our thanks to the Kellerberrin Shire and local businesses for their support during the project. We look forward to continuing our partnerships and contributing to the community’s success.

The Bowling Club would like to thank its sponsors for their continued support enabling our event to continue and provide a great carnival for everyone.

The Cunderdin Hybrid Solar and Battery project features several key innovations. The integration of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a large-scale photovoltaic (PV) power plant ensures maximum flexibility and enables the project to deliver power to the local SWIS grid during peak demand periods. This project is unique in its ability to supply grid power for four hours after sunset, providing enough energy to power 10,000 homes. Monford successfully mobilised over 300 team members and contractors to deliver the Cunderdin project it’s lifecycle. Despite juggling tight deadlines and unique complexities, our team’s collaborative effort ensured the project was delivered to the highest standards and met all client specifications. Their approach emphasised innovation, efficient project management, and a strong commitment to quality and safety, which were crucial in achieving project success.

“We are proud to announce the successful launch of our hybrid solar PV project, a step towards a more sustainable and energy-efficient future. This innovative project marks a significant milestone in our commitment to renewable energy, blending solar power with cutting-edge technology to reduce our carbon footprint and power the future.”
