Project description

Located 20 kilometres north-west of the Tom Price Process Plant, the Western Turner Syncline plant development is part of Rio Tinto’s Western Turner Brockman project, which aims to increase production on the Western Turner Syncline road haulage and overland conveyor operations. Monford completed civil and concrete works for the construction of a heavy and light vehicle maintenance facility, including workshops, refuelling areas, wash-down areas, tyre changing and store area, First Aid building and security gatehouse, and interconnecting services and
supporting infrastructure.

Scope of work

  • Place structural fill and compaction in horizontal layers to build site to required levels
  • Detailed earthworks for slabs, strip/pad footings and sumps, including site preparation and excavations (2,800m3)
  • Construct and backfill reinforced concrete foundations
  • Supply and place edge formwork for all structures (15,200m2)
  • Supply and install concrete for foundations, ramps, slabs, walls, pedestals (2,000m3)
  • Install and tie all reinforcement steel (4,106m2)
  • Install concrete blinding (190m2)
  • Supply and install expansion joints, including saw cuts after pours and application of mastic to the joints
  • Casting in / working around pipework and services
  • Casting in HD bolts / clamp plates
  • Construct large-scale, precast, tilt-up concrete panel buildings
  • Install waterproofing DPM to underside of floor slabs and thickenings (1,435m2)
  • Grouting to structural steelwork including formwork
  • Traffic management where works with other subcontractors interface
