    Merredin Solar Farm, W.A.

The Merredin Solar farm, built by Monford Group, is the largest such facility in Western Australia. It was built – from start to finish – in just 3 months.

The project reached completion during December 2019.

Monford were awarded this project following their exemplary performance on the Yarranlea Solar Farm, in Queensland, also built in 2019. Monford completed both projects safely and on – or ahead of – schedule.

The Merredin Solar farm has an output of 281GWh of electricity annually, generating enough energy to power approximately 42,000 Western Australian homes. It is located approximately 260km east of Perth in Western Australia’s Central Wheatbelt region.

The Merredin solar farm consists of approximately 360,000 solar panels mounted on a single axis tracking system and 22 inverter stations will convert the power from the solar panels to alternating current (AC) before entering an onsite substation. A transformer within the substation will then increase the voltage for injection to the Merredin Terminal Substation.

Risen Project Manager Patrick O’Neill commented on the the choice to go with Monford saying, “They are a reputable contracting company from Perth with experience in the renewable energy sector.”

Monford employees Dale James and Michael White have been recognised for their commitment to safety while working on the NorthLink WA Stage 1 project.

Dale, a steel fixer, received a safety award for stopping works and creating an exclusion zone after noticing debris falling from a pillar which posed a safety risk to personnel working in the vicinity.

Michael White, a formworker, also received a safety award on this project for identifying unauthorised people entering work zone, machine failure and unorganised lifts. Michael helped implement a range of safety controls, including putting up bunting / exclusion zones, ensuring plant pre-starts are completed, planning lifts and reviewing lift study.
